Description:

Steps to Reproduce: (1) Download a pdf file from the web, or find the web page of pdf you've already downloaded. I discovered this problem when downloading an updated version of http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Carbon/Reference/MetadataAttributesRef/MetadataAttributesRef.pdf. (2) Control-click on the pdf link to bring up contextual menu. (3) Hold down option key to change Download Linked File to Download Linked File As... (4) Select Download Linked File As... (5) Make sure the location and name of the pdf to be downloaded is the same as the existing pdf file on hard drive. (6) Select Save. (7) Select Replace. Expected Results: The new file should replace the existing file. Actual results: The new file does not replace the existing file. If the existing file is foo.pdf, then the new file is downloaded with the name foo-1.pdf. Regression: The problem only seems to occur with pdf files, and only in Safari. Replace works normally with gif files, html files, and webarchives, for example. Replace also works normally when using Save As... in Preview.app. I'm using OS X 10.4.2 Build 8C46. I've also confirmed the problem in Safari 1.3 (v312) running on OS X 10.3.9 Build 7W98. Notes: No notes. 17-Aug-2005 12:39 PM : Engineering has requested more information in order to further investigate this issue. Please indicate if this issue continues to occur after installing the latest Security Update. 17-Aug-2005 03:38 PM Jeff Johnson: The issue still exists after installing Security Update 2005-007 for OS X 10.4.2. I have not installed the Security Update for OS X 10.3.9, so I can't yet comment about that. 12-Sep-2005 12:39 PM Jeff Johnson: The issue also still exists after installing Security Update 2005-007 for OS X 10.3.9 and Safari Update 1.3.1.
