In Leopard's iCal, the search field is at the top of the iCal window, and the search results show up at the bottom of the window. This is a really bad UI. It probably breaks Apple's own Human Interface Guidelines. When you click on the search field, enter search text, and then click on a search result, your mouse has to travel a really long way, especially if your screen and the iCal window are large. If I recall correctly, both the search field and the search results were at the bottom of the window in Tiger's iCal, so this problem did not occur in Tiger. 06-Nov-2008 06:06 PM : Engineering has determined that this issue behaves as intended based on the following information: Not all applications show results right next to the search bar (AB). 06-Nov-2008 06:42 PM Jeff Johnson: Whether the behavior was intended or not is irrelevant. The interface is crappy. That's the bug. Is "AB" supposed to stand for Address Book? In Address Book, the search results start at the top of the window, so they're much closer to the search field than in iCal. So Address Book does not support your argument at all. 06-Nov-2008 06:46 PM Jeff Johnson: Please re-open this bug. Whether you want to call it a regression or not, I don't care. "Behaves Correctly" is not a possible response to this bug report. If you want to say, "Won't fix", that's your call (thought it would be a bad call).
