Title: Safari won't let me save with the file extension I want

Originated Date: 25-Apr-2009

State: Open

Fixed? No

Attachments: wtf.png

Description:

Summary: I got a crash report on the web, so I selected the text on the web page and tried to save it with the file extension ".crash" in order to remind me that it was a crash report. However, Safari wouldn't let me use the file extension ".crash". This was ridiculous, because immediately after saving with the file extension that Safari wanted, I was able to switch to Finder and change the file extension to the one I wanted. Safari shouldn't tell me what to do, it should do what I want! Steps to Reproduce: 1. Select crash report text in Safari and copy. 2. Save As... 3. Enter file name "application.crash" Expected Results: Safari saves the copied text in the file "application.crash". Actual Results: See attached screenshot "wtf.png". Safari presents a warning window: You cannot save this document with the extension ".crash" at the end of the name. The required extension is ".html". Regression: Unknown. Notes: There's also a typo in the warning: it should be "with the extension" rather than "with extension", though really it shouldn't say anything at all, it should just save your document.
